New Girl in the Air - Personal Points: The Positives of Travel Far Outweigh the Frustrations

My trip out to Colorado got off to a rough start, with my original flight RIC-ORD-COS on United being cancelled.  By the end of the night, I finally got to Denver on rebooking #4 (RIC-IAD-DEN) after flip-flopping between airlines, airports, and connection points.  Even still, I landed 3.5 hours later than I expected…and at an alternate airport to boot.

While it was really annoying to deal with tweets, phone calls, and airline agents at the time, the truth of the matter is that it's still pretty amazing that I can get from my office in Virginia to a hotel in Denver in 10 hours, even including the many delays.  Sure, I had to change my hotel and car rental arrangements on the fly, but sometimes a challenge can be fun.  Getting a sweet upgrade on my rental car made things a little easier to swallow and being able to spend time with some family members in Denver unexpectedly was also a welcome surprise.

Mostly, though, I am just entirely grateful that I made it to the event I had been looking forward to.  I've had a great time reconnecting with other travel buddies and have a few new ideas on where this blog is headed.  Inspirational in every sense.

But the real reason that the positives of travel far outweigh the frustrations along the way?  I get this on a Friday at noon instead of spending my day delving into spreadsheets.  If these mountains aren't worth it, than I'm not sure what is.
